Don’t get complacent with AIDS A lot of people all around the world feel that only the persons belonging to the High Risk Group are vulnerable to the HIV infections which lead to AIDS. But in reality, this is not at all true. Numerous studies all over the world have proved that a massive number of AIDS patients come from the non-risk group. Here we should differentiate between the High Risk and no risk group. The High Risk Group includes those people who are most likely to get infected with HIV. This group includes peoples like h*mos*xu*ls, se* workers, d*ug addicts, people who favours open and unprotected sex and polygamous persons etc. According to the UNAIDS and WHO estimations approximately 33.2 million people are infected with HIV all over the world. Moreover a huge chunk of people are unaware that they are infected with HIV. These people very easily spread the infection. It has been seen that people who feel that they are not HIV prone can become easy victims of HIV or AIDS due to the complacence factor. So, irrespective of your risk factor you must be well aware of the various facets of HIV infection. Then only you [...]

Back in beginning to mid December 2008 I had unprotected sex with a co-worker.(I know, I know!) I was tested for all STD’s and HIV in second week of January, last week of March, and first week of April, all were negative. I had a cold in March, and it went away, but on Monday I noticed I was getting a sore throat. I also might have a sinus infection cause the pain is across my forehead and cheekbones. I don’t really have runny nose, just sore, scratchy throat. I also have allergies I also smoke cigarettes, but have tried to stay away while having the sore throat. Don’t have fever or flu symptoms. My co-worker never told me he was married, and recently said his wife just found out she was pregnant. He said she was fine when tested for everything. I tested negative in April. Am I Ok? Are these hiv symptoms? Would I be getting a sore throat now 4 months later. Everyone is telling me to get over this HIV thing but I can’t in the back of my mind I’m still scared. Thanks for all who reply!!

The signs of HIV infection vary from person to person. The main problem is that there are no precise or specific HIV symptoms linked only to HIV infection. The most precise method to detect or diagnose HIV infection is testing for HIV antibodies by using Western Blot or ELIZA and that is the only way that you can be sure whether you are clean or infected. The western blot or ELIZA HIV test gives a positive result only when the person’s immune system produces antibodies to combat the HIV virus. Some of the early symptoms of HIV are rapid weight loss, fatigue, pneumonia, night sweating, dry coughs, swollen lymph glands or sometimes even depression or unexplained memory loss. After the transmission of the virus, most infected patients develop an unexplained fever within 2-4 weeks. After that patients may be completely free of infection or symptoms for about 8 or 9 years. But even through this period, the virus continues to replicate to kill off the normal immune system of the patient. Common symptoms include- Heaving dry coughs for no reason. Rapid weight loss and unexplained night sweats with constant infections and fevers Unexplained tiredness Unexplained tiredness with whitish patches on [...]
