What is the Window Period for HIV?

I had unprotected sex with this guy in late June early July. I did a test in middle October and came back (NEG) also I did another test in late January. Did I hit the window period. There are no signs of this guy having aids, I just hate the fact that I had unprotected sex. Do you think I am ok??? What are the window periods???

Although it could take several years for symptoms to appear, it does NOT take that long for someone who has HIV to test positive. More than 98% of people who have HIV would test positive within 3 months. In very rare cases, it could take up to 6 months for someone to test positive. If you tested positive 6 months after your possible exposure, you do not have HIV.

you should have a test one year after you contact took place- HIV has a nasty habbit of hiding for a long time. but you are probably alright- if this last test comes back neg, then i wouldnt worry about having HIV. and dont worry too much till then- chances are good that you are clean.

95% of infected people would show positive by six weeks. But the “official” window period is 3 months. You are beyond those 3 months so you can trust your negative result. It’s definately conclusive.

You should be okay with the test late in January.
2-8 weeks is the norm, but in some cases it will not show up until 3 months. After that your safe.

The window period for HIV is 6 month. But HIV can live in your body for 10 years without any symptoms and without out showing up on a test.

OK, 2- 8 wks, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year..[ dormant 10years].=if the antibodies do not show up for 10 yrs, is person infective all along ? will the PCR test for viral nuclear proteins which shows the viral RNA in blood even during the window period, show up during the 10 yrs it is hiding somewhere, where? sperm? gut? brain? Other WBC?….[.by the way rubbers stop virus only 80%of the time.]

I recently had sex with two prostitues and during each session I wore a condom which did not break. I’m now terrified that somehow I’ll have contracted HIV, is this possible?

    hi,
I had a unprotected sex with call girl 6 months back. I am now so much terrified and feeling like infected. I have not gone through test yet. But for last 6 months i did not find any symptoms. When i talk to that girl, she told that she is oK.

You can not trust that girl… Its better to get yourself checked by doing a simple blood test. Many clinics do it. This is the only way to get your peace of mind back.

If you feel shy in asking doctor/paramedical staff about HIV test or if need an excuse, then say that you are going to be married soon so you need to get HIV test done…
